I think the character that this season (as well as ten, if to a lesser extent) has done best is Shizuo. It just gets me hyped to see more every time. And beyond that, it's the perfect OP for the show. Even outside of the context of Durarara, it's an excellent song and OP. This really isn't related to anything else, but I just feel like it's the sort of face that cannot be understressed. I'm also extremely glad that our main trio's story is moving forward after finding excuses not to for two entire seasons worth of the show. The only character we've really gained is Kasane Kujiragi, and she's been a valuable addition to the plot. Characters are actually progressing at a somewhat reasonable pace and we've finally stopped throwing more people into the story for literally no reason. And I can not stress enough how much more enjoyable this makes the show to watch. I'd honestly say Ketsu's the best paced part of the show so far, as the first season went too slowly for it's own good at times and the second season had an extremely jarring transition between the first and second book it was adapting. It's still fast paced, but it's a pacing that makes sense for a show like Durarara where lingering too much can hurt. Ketsu thankfully mostly removes these problems.
Honestly, if not for the rewatch, there's decent odds I wouldn't've completed the season. It was not only a big victim of the aimlessness that appears to infect many light novel series once they get popular and want to keep going, but it was also extremely rushed on top of that. Rather underhanded of Rokujou to threaten Kida to get Mikado to talk, but hey it worked. I know the man’s proven indestructible so far, but I don’t want to be burned by somehow picking the dead guy as my favorite character for the millionth time. That flashback better not be a death flag for Shizuo. Wait the fuck up pedo teacher is a Saika now? And I guess she’s been reunited with the pedo teacher bleh. I was wondering which Saika was behind this, it’s Haruna. Oh lol Dotachin just strolled up to Shinra’s place, wasn’t expecting that.
